Charles L. Raymond, 85, of Janesville, WI died February 25, 2017 at his home. He was born May 13, 1931 to Julius Raymond and Marie Prucha Raymond in La Crosse, WI. He served in the Korean War in the US Navy as a Frog Man and Aviation Mechanic for navy airplanes. He served as VFW Chapman, VFW Jr. Vice, VFW Sr. Vice, and VFW Commander (1969-1970) . Charles married Joan Elizabeth Glynn on July 24, 1951 whom he met through a blind date set up by his sister, Geraldine. He worked at General Motors Fisher Body Division, as a Wisconsin State Trooper and as a Wisconsin Drivers License Examiner. Charles is survived by his sister (Virginia Page), …three children: James (Bonny) Raymond, Theresa (Randy) Engen, and Barbara Scherdell. Seven grandchildren: Robert (Kaylee) Raymond, Russell (Rebecca) Raymond, Ryan (Jonell) Raymond, Derrick Scherdell, Traci Scherdell, Kimberley (Tim Horton) Engen, Brian (Nicole) Engen, and his eight great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Alyssa, Sidney, Carter, Landen, Samantha, Alexandra, and Amelia. Least but not forgotten, Candy his kitty cat. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Julius and Marie Raymond, wife: Joan Raymond, brother: Robert Raymond and sisters: Dolores Horne and Geraldine Montgomery. He enjoyed teaching his grandkids bad mitten and how to fish. He made ice skating rinks in the backyard in the winter and hosted dance parties in the summer for all the neighborhood kids. He enjoyed taking his kids to the sand and gravel pit to swim. He also enjoyed taking family vacations and traveling with his wife in later years. Charles hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling, reading, swimming, boating, Spelunking and golfing. The family wants to give a special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare and Gift of the Heart Homecare L.L.C. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Chapel. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 at the grave at Mt. Olivet followed by burial there. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or Kienow-Hilt V. F.W. Post # 1621.
